Stratigraphic Reservoir Characterization for Petroleum Geologists, Geophysicists, and Engineers focuses on stratigraphic aspects of clastic reservoir characterization, with emphasis on understanding the primary control that depositional processes and systems exert on reservoir performance, and the extent to which stratigraphic features can be predicted away from the wellbore. The book only deals with structural aspects in a peripheral manner because this topic is very comprehensive and because structural aspects of a reservoir are more dependent upon the tectonic setting, unlike stratigraphic features which can be more clearly defined on the basis of the environment in which they were deposited. Geological modeling is also only peripherally discussed because of the fast pace of evolution of increasingly complex and quantitative modeling programs designed to solve both specific and general reservoir performance problems.

well written book with good examples

Well written book with good examples
I was searching for some good geological books that talk more about fluvial deposits, of course there are a lot out there and I already have a couple, what is different her that it talks in theory and then take you to some real examples from different field with some good details. In general the book is very good for geologist and non geologist as it is well explained with a lot of good images I was let down a little bit when I saw the images in black and white, but later I found out that the CD included in the book have all the images in color. I was also interested to know more about deltaic environment which was discussed but not in the details I was looking for. But in general I enjoyed reading it.
I highly recommend this book for geologist and non geologist interested in geology.

I have gone through all the book I have to say the detail work spend on explaining are very very good, I found the discussion about Flow layers system of an extreme interest of me. I have to say after going through the entire book I had to raise the stars rating from 4 to 5.
This book is defiantly extremely good for non-geological people also,, as it does consider such readers while explaining.

i love this book disney has out done itself with this book is a story of love friendship believing in your dreams to come true and no matter how bad people treat you that kindness is a true treasure and i believe this book should be read by all ages . dont think that it is just another princess book this book shows morals that everyone should practice and live by . please take time to read to your family this heartwarming book . love is kindness and power. thank you for reading

Start a memory with your daughter

I bought one for my daughter in preparation for when the movie premiered on March 13, 2015. I read it to her with an English accent. Every night she asked to read it with her. She took it to school and read it everyday. A week later I ordered 9 more and gave them to her friends as a party favor when we all went to see the movie for her ninth birthday. Good memories and beautifully written book. Be kind. Pass it on.

Have Courage, and Be Kind

The classic story gets an updated message for both old and young - have courage and be kind. In today's society with all of the technology we have and little face-to-face contact, it's hard to be so kind to others and have the courage to pursue our dreams. But this new adaptation of the classic fairy tale does just that; it reinforces the need to be compassionate and brave in the midst of tragedy and misfortune, no matter where we come from.

The story itself is straightforward, but since you already know the tale, I won't give the synopsis away. I'll just say this: read the story with an open mind and heart, and go see this film. It is both beautiful reading the pages and having the imagery come to life, and it will be more exciting when the film is released in March. Highly recommend this book for all ages!

Susanna Moodie (1805-85) emigrated from England in 1832 to Upper Canada, where she settled on a farm with her husband. In poems about the arrival and the Moodies' seven years in the bush, which were followed by a more civilized ilfe in Belleville, and about Mrs Moodie in old age and then after death - in the present, when she observes the twentieth century destroying her past and its meaning - Margaret Atwood has created haunting meditations on an English gentlewoman's confrontation with the wilderness, and compelling variations on the themes of dislocation and alienation, nature and civilization.

The poems are supplemented by Margaret Atwood's collages and an 'Afterword' in which the poet says: 'We are all imigrants to this place even if we were born here....'

As fledgling artists in their respective fields, Margaret Atwood and Charles Pachter were enthusiastic collaborators in a unique art form, the livre d'artiste ? the marriage of original graphic work with literary text. Beginning in the mid-sixties, while both were still students, they worked together on five limited-edition handmade books, volumes of Atwood?s poetry with Pachter?s interpretive artwork. The culmination of their collaboration, the work that is considered their masterpiece, is The Journals of Susanna Moodie. In her reading of Susanna Moodie?s chronicles of pioneer life in nineteenth-century Canada, Atwood found the haunting and timeless themes that still obsess us.

The poems of The Journals of Susanna Moodie were first published in 1970 in a standard format. This sequence of poems is regarded as a classic, in addition to being connected with her later novel, Alias Grace. In 1980, Pachter was able to add his own vibrant, evocative images and create the version they had dreamt of: a hand-set, hand-printed illustrated limited edition of 120 numbered copies.

This popular edition is a faithful re-creation of the original, accompanied by an introductory memoir by Pachter, describing his friendship with Atwood and the creative process behind this breathtaking work, and a foreword by David Staines, who pays homage to Atwood, Pachter, and Moodie and their central places in our art and literature.

"The Journals of Susanna Moodie" poems are interesting and spare in style. I have not gone through the whole collection, but Margaret Atwood has written a thought-provoking account (through poems) of Susanna Moodie. Any serious or avid poem reader should consider this collection of related poems.

Barry Galbraith - master jazz guitarist and arranger

I have been playing the outstanding arrangements of Barry Galbraith for several months. Anyone that can play fingerstyle guitar - jazz guitarists as well as classical guitarists - would find these arrangements eminently playable and rich. Barry Galbraith was not only a fine man, but he was a really innovative jazz guitarist. His arrangements have not only been published in this great book, but in essential music journals as well, such as "Just Jazz Guitar." Playing his arrangements is an excellent way of learning the jazz genre in guitar playing. I was a classical guitarist before playing Barry's arrangements, and I have discovered a new treasure in playing jazz guitar with the help of this book. Listening to the CD that accompanies the arrangements is worth the price of the book by itself. Learn from the master!

As a classically trained doublebassist working in the studios of NYC I knew many older composers and musicians who worked with Barry. He was the 'go-to' guitarist in his day. Both a brilliant teacher and player.
I recently started learning guitar and my teacher suggested this volume. I have not completed working through it yet, but as a veteran of 40 years in the music business, and trained at Juilliard and Eastman, I know the value of great teaching tools. This book was written by Barry for his own students from beginners to well advanced. It is very understandable and an inspirational learning tool.
Buy it. Use it. You will not be disappointed.
Volume 1 is equally as good. Both volumes contain CD's of each piece in the books.

Examining the events in the Massachusetts of 1692, and immediately discounting much of what readers may already know about the trials, he answers some of the questions they will bring, but raises even more. In the brilliant introduction, the author actively encourages the rethinking of past notions of the events leading up to the accusations and hearings. He sets straight the issue of Tituba's ethnicity, the motives and means of Cotton Mather and his colleagues, and the societal contexts and compulsions of the accusers. These participants are introduced and preliminary events are related, all culminating in the hearings. At this point, some readers may get bogged down in respectable yet monotonous he-said-she-said, while others may feel the copious direct quotes from primary sources are just right. Writing with an unabashed political bent, Aronson draws intrepid parallels between Salem and post-September 11th society (as well as the 1960s), and alternately charming and shocking connections between the 400-year-old participants and classic folk- and fairy-tale characters. In the charge to form one's own deduction about what happened and why, this bold book cautions that while readers' interpretations will vary and are valid, conclusions may not even be possible.

It tells you why people in certain positions (accusers, accused, judges,) might have done or said certain things and what the logic/psychology might've been behind their actions. near the end of the book it gives you a timeline of the Witch Trials' important events. This was a great resource for learning about the Salem Witch Trials and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about this topic.

This book is an excellent read for those who want to learn more about the Salem Witch Trials. Marc Aronson describes many of the trials in great detail and contains more than just facts. He tells you what he interprets of his research and gives a great deal of background information, all the while allowing for creative thinking and self-interpretation. The book reveals important characters and plots that may not be mentioned in other books. This book mainly centers on Ann Putnam Jr., whose family has recently suffered a plunge in power and wealth. Even though she is only a teenager, she yearns for the glory that, in her mind, was stolen by the Porter family. Together with a few other girls, she plays the part of the accuser in the huge drama that is the Salem Witch Trials. She singles out at first the unpopular, for they are the easier targets. At trials she screams in agony when the accused does so much as flinch and her friends do the same. But then she accuses people of higher status, such as leaders and even churchmen. It takes a very long time, but after many false accusations, arrests, and hangings, eventually the number of skeptics grows. Ann says a public apology, but never exactly admits to lying. She always avoids the truth by saying it was "a great delusion of Satan." At the very end of the book there is a chapter that explains the fuzzier aspects of the stories. Even though historians know what Ann Putnam Jr. and her supporters did, there are still many mysteries unsolved. There are many dull parts of the book, but most of it is quite interesting. All in all, I say it's a wonderful volume.

A Worthy Addition to the Field

Witch-Hunt is a solid and fascinating work which encapsulates the facts and theories surrounding the Salem Witch Trials. Aronson begins the book by stating his objective: to correct false information and assumptions that have grown up around the trials (and the events leading up to them). Although this kind of demythologizing does occur, Aronson is more focused on summarizing and comparing the opinions, theories and research of various scholars on why the Salem Witch Trials happened than on battling specific falsehoods.
Aronson leans towards the more rational and psychological explanations for the Salem Witch Trials, but he mentions many others, from the theory that there were truly witches in Salem to the theory that the accusers were entangled in a deliberate conspiracy to defraud their victims.
Aronson's careful presentation of the facts and theories should be applauded, especially his portrayal of the Puritans. Rather than portraying the Puritans as a warped society holding strange beliefs, he works to pull the reader into the Puritan world. The Puritans' beliefs and struggles become real and comprehensible. Aronson demonstrates too that those who spoke out against the trials (and eventually stopped them) were products of the same community and same religious convictions as the accusers.
I highly recommend this book for anyone studying the Salem Witch Trials, before or after reading other material.
